The most well-known brand, Botox contains a protective protein complex around the active ingredient, which can affect how it diffuses. It’s versatile and widely used for both cosmetic and medical purposes.
Known as the “naked toxin,” Xeomin contains only the active botulinum toxin without additional protein complexes. This may reduce the risk of developing resistance over time for some patients.
Diffuses more quickly and spreads over a larger area than Botox or Xeomin, making it potentially better suited for treating larger areas like the forehead. It typically requires a slightly higher dose than Botox but can produce faster results.
The results typically last between 3-5 months from the date of injection. Over time the body metabolizes the medication, leading to the slow return of muscle movement in the treatment area.
Patients can choose to maintain their results for longer periods by undergoing periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.
